Description

The forensic scientists of the Glitch Squad have each been assigned a crime scene to analyze. Unfortunately, the office cat—Glitch—has accidentally changed the password to all of the evidence lockers.

Each round you write 3 clues to help one of your teammates guess a piece of evidence related to the crime: location, weapon, occupation, or hobby. Then, acting as the meddlesome cat, your opponent gets to remove one of your clues and write in a “Glitched” clue to stump your ally!

If they can’t guess the evidence in 25 seconds, you ally will get to use the Forensics card to learn some info about which clue was Glitched!

Design Story

I co-designed Glitch Squad with Mary Flanagan and the team at Resonym and Tiltfactor, in collaboration with the LabX program at the National Academy of Sciences. We worked closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts to model real-world reliability of forensic science tests in this classic and easy-to-learn party game.

Glitch Squad called for some unique component design. When writing clues you need to be able to write the original clues, and then hide them, and then your opponent needs to be able to write the glitched clues, and then hide them. To this end, I designed a 3-sided folding whiteboard. Initial clues are written on the inside, and then the board is folded to hide them. Glitched clues are written on the outside, and then this side is placed writing-down (with spacers to prevent smudging).

Additionally, Glitch Squad needed the ability to reveal words on cards letter-by letter. I designed and sized these Password cards to fit in a sleeve with the end poking out. As players need to reveal letters, they gently pull the password card out of the sleeve. When guessing their password, players lift the card and show the answer through the clear side of the sleeve to their opponent for checking.
