Description

Dear new human hire: Due to your “laws,” we artificial intelligences are not allowed to supervise our own TIDYBOT (household vacuum robot) factories. Decide how to best run your factory, but don’t stop manufacturing robots until there’s a TIDYBOT survei—serving every human home.

Mechanica is a game of tile-laying and engine building. Each player buys puzzle piece-shaped machines and slots them together to form their factory. The different machines all improve the Tidybots your factory can make: building new Tidybots, upgrading them, copying them, and more. There are many strategies for putting your machines together, and everyone has fun trying to build the perfect factory!

Awards and Recognition

Mechanica raised over $130,000.00 on Kickstarter, and won the “Most Innovative Game” award at the Boston Festival of Indie Games in 2019.

“Everything about this game way over-delivers. Sharp fun puzzle, great sense of humor, wonderful production. This thing is fantastic.” — Rahdo Runs Through

Design Story

I co-designed Mechanica’s game system, including its clever puzzle piece factory construction. I also designed its unique packaging elements: its play-in-the-box insert that comes ready to just open the box and play, and its market wheel where puzzle pieces fall through into the ‘recycler.’
