Description

POX: Save the People is a cooperative board game that challenges 1–4 players to stop the spread of a deadly disease. Not only is the game fun, but through play, players understand group immunity and the need to vaccinate.

Awards and Recognition

The iPad version of POX won the Best Digital Game award at the Meaningful Play conference in 2012.

Design Story

POX was created at the request of the Mascoma Valley Health Initiative to convince players to get vaccinated. I co-designed POX’s simple and elegant core disease spreading and containment mechanics. I assisted in conducting research on POX’s effects on changing players’ attitudes towards vaccination. I also assisted on the creation of a browser-based and iPad version of POX, which was available on the App Store.
